Greatwood is a Wiltshire Council accredited Alternative Provider of Special Educational Needs and Disability Programmes, and Provider of Positive Activities for Young People. We are looking to recruit an SEN Teaching Assistant to work alongside our two qualified teachers in the delivery of our range of Animal Assisted Intervention programmes, from September 2019 onwards.
The ideal candidate will have attained a Teaching Assistant qualification at Level 3 or above, or have achieved Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) status. You will also be competent in both English and Maths, with passes at a minimum GCSE Grade C (or equivalent).
You will be strong team player, expected to support the teaching staff on a daily basis, and must also be prepared to step in to cover for staff where necessary. You must have prior experience of working with young people with social, emotional, physical or learning difficulties, and be confident in supervising learners either individually or as a group. You should be competent in planning and delivering activities for individuals or small groups, and able to work using your own initiative.
Greatwood’s educational programmes involve working outdoors with a range of animals, including the sanctuary’s ex racehorses. Whilst experience of working with horses and other animals is not essential for this role, a willingness to learn and a general enthusiasm for the outdoor environment are required.
