Be s t i n Sh ow !
Our Options group had lots of fun learning about all the different parts of the grooming kit
and how to use them. They learnt that as well as the aesthetic reasons for grooming it was
also necessary for keeping the horses healthy. We then looked at different ways to plait the
mane. The students were then eager to put theory into practise and we headed out to the
yard.
With the Shetland ponies thick winter coats in the process of malting there was a lot of
grooming to do! The students got into pairs and whilst one restrained the pony the other
knuckled down putting their new found skills into practice.
When the ponies were looking sleek and shiny the students then learnt how to plait their
manes and tails and some of the ponies were even lucky enough to receive some ribbons!
They might not be as fast and sleek as their Thoroughbred neighbours but when the students
led them up and down to show off their makeovers, they must have felt like champions!
Well done Stuart, Poncho looks great!
