Greatwood
Super Charlotte supports Sunshine’s Leg
The Greatwood Engagement course is all about preparing for a work based placement. So here at
Greatwood, students learn the skills needed to be able to work alongside animals. Now in their 5
th
Term, students on this course had the opportunity to learn from Lisa about how to put on an
exercise bandage. Don’t worry the horses hadn’t hurt themselves! The horses sometimes wear
bandages to protect their legs when exercising. They learnt to first put on the pad in exactly the
right position, how to roll the bandage correctly, so that once you have put it on the ties are
where you want them. We also learnt how to put on the bandage so it holds firmly in place without
being too tight. This all seemed a little daunting considering we were also going to be working with
the big thoroughbreds so we practiced on Jo the pretend horse first!
Once they had perfected their new skills on Jo, the students, headed out to the yard and
practiced their new skills on the horses. They worked together giving each other encouragement
and help if needed; they also gave each other feedback on what they did well and what could have
been done better.
Well done Charlotte for listening to the advice and getting stuck in. You tried your best and were
able to apply the support on Sunshine’s leg. Great job!
