Bringing the Shetland Ponies into the Summer
As the weather warms up and days get longer, the students have been hard at work making
sure that the Shetland ponies are comfortable in the long summer days. Their winter coats
are ideal for the cold as they are long and thick and provide perfect insulation for the arctic
temperatures! However, this thick coat is increasingly uncomfortable as temperatures rise;
just as we take off our jackets when we’re too hot, the ponies want to remove their coats
too. The students have had lots of practice in performing the rigorous grooming regime, so
when it came to helping the Shetlands they all did a sterling job! Well done to all! You have
relieved the ponies of a lot of discomfort and they all look so happy now enjoying the summer
sun.
Look at the difference between the winter and summer coat of Aaron, one of our lovely
Shetland ponies.
