Greatwood’s Sensory and Market Gardens
This year, the students have enjoyed maintaining both the Sensory and Market gardens here
at Greatwood. These gardens are ever expanding, and the students have helped plant
sunflowers, potatoes, rainbow chard and raspberries. This summer, the students have been
able to enjoy the fruits of their labour (quite literally) as the flowers, fruits and vegetables
have bloomed and blossomed. Thank you to all who lent their green fingers and got stuck in
with the gardening throughout the year.
New for the students this year is ‘Willow Weaving’. An activity where students weave the
willow branches to create walls and structures. Within the Market garden, two beautiful
willow dens or ‘cubby holes’ have been fashioned by the students- just in time to lend some
shade during the hot days of summer.
The outdoor classroom, also situated within the Market garden, has had a ‘re-vamp’ this
summer. It has been painted in beautiful candy blues, pinks and yellows; adding a relaxing
feel to the already tranquil atmosphere.
