Chickens
This term, our flock of chickens have joined the ranks of the Greatwood
creatures that help us deliver and assess our unit on Moving and
Handling Small Animals. Learners firstly have to learn how to round
them up and get them to Red’s Barn, without causing them any
distress – not as easy as you might think!
After a few attempts and quite a lot of planning, the students were
able to work well as a team to successfully get the chickens into the
barn. Our new teacher, Alex then showed us all how to handle the
chickens in a safe and calm way which allowed us to give them a
thorough health check. The learners were very pleased with
themselves for being able to catch and hold a live chicken, some for
the first time ever.
