Greatwood
Ha p p y He n Ho u s e s
This term has coincided with National Entrepreneurship Week. So why ignore this wonderful
opportunity for our students to become budding designers and craftsman? But what could they
possibly make for animals, design and build it within 5 weeks and then auction it off to raise as
much money as they can for Greatwood? A hen house of course!
Having looked at different designs of hen houses, the students decided that the best model to
make would be a nesting box made out of wood. This was because it would be cheap to make, light
weight and more people would have room to house it in their garden.
With screwdrivers twisting and helping hands at the ready, the houses began to take shape. Well
done to Serena and Josh for working well together, taking it in turns to use the tools and ensure
the house was constructed correctly. We wouldn’t want a leaky roof now would we?
The houses are yet to be painted and auctioned off so we will keep you updated on the results,
but it is hoped that all hen houses will be auctioned off at the student’s schools and the money
raised will help feed our chickens here at Greatwood. Maybe we will put a sneaky bid in for one or
two of them... they’re too good not to keep for our chickens!
