The Original Orienteering Challenge
Whilst focussing on teamwork skills this term, our groups of students have been busy trying out
orienteering. Each week, each team have been vying for their place on the leader board in the
hope of winning the end of term prize.
We all know how hard it is to read a map, that's why we have smart phones and sat navs to tell us
these days, so finding the right route was always going to be a challenge. Having to think carefully
about where they were on the map and where they had to get to next is tricky in a place you do
not know so well, but with a bit of map twisting and the odd re-tracing of their footsteps, the
teams each completed the route and found the hidden markers, some of which were a little tricky
to find!
There have been a number of different strategies used, with the students working out each
other’s strengths and looking to capitalise on them. But we were particularly pleased with how well
Daniel and Jordan worked together, co-operating well and completing the challenges in good time.
Their focus and good map reading skills helped them to get their faces on our leader board and
put themselves in a good position to win that prize! Well done to you both.
