Greatwood
Tip Top Condition
All animals have to be looked after according to the Animal Welfare Act and at Greatwood, we
believe in the 5 Freedoms, ensuring that every animal has the right to 5 key areas in order for
them to live happily and well.
It was the turn of our adorable donkeys, Jack and Simon to be in the spotlight this week and as
we were focussing our attention on animal welfare, it was a great opportunity for the students to
weigh them and decide if they were being looked after correctly in accordance with the Animal
Welfare Act.
It is all too easy for a donkey to become obese with all the lush grass and hay around them, so it
is important that we closely control their diets. With a weight measure in hand, students got to
work measuring their height and girth in order to work out the averages and then record on a
chart, helping them to work out their weight.
We are pleased to say that due to Joe's expert measuring and recording of results, Jack and
Simon and in tip top condition.
