Greatwood
Calorie Controlled Breakkie
As we begin to grow older, or begin to train for different disciplines, our bodies need a variety of
food to ensure that we develop our strength and keep ourselves fit and healthy. At Greatwood, we
try to rehabilitate and rehome as many of our horses as we can, ensuring they go on to lead happy
lives in their new homes.
Whilst in training, the Thoroughbreds are often ridden out, cantering through the countryside
and trotting along the bridleways. This means that they burn lots of calories and so need a helping
hand to stay fit and healthy, just like humans do when training for particular sport.
With so many horses in needing the extra mix of food daily, our students were on hand to help
the yard staff out, carefully following each horse’s meal plans and mixing up their breakfast.
Megan did a great job weighing out the food before feeding it to her horse. Too little food and
the horse would still be hungry, too much and he would feel sick! So well done Megan on ensuring
you weighed it all out correctly, your horse certainly looks like he is enjoying his food!
