Fresh Water For All
It’s amazing how quickly the water troughs that provide our horses with fresh water every day
get dirty. Without a good cleaning routine, these troughs are soon filled with leaves, bugs and a
film of algae. Dirty water can help spread disease and would soon make the horses ill; certainly
something that we try to ensure does not happen.
With this term’s units focussing on providing animals with food and water, the students following
the Equine Engagement course, were soon put to hard work, emptying the troughs and giving them
a good scrub to remove any algae that had had the chance to grow on the sides. Filling them up
seemed to take a while, but it was important that we did not forget to turn the tap off once the
water had reached the top. A flooded field is not ideal!
Joe, Jack and Ashley did a sterling job cleaning the troughs, taking great care in removing any
debris that was submerged in the water. There were a few wet clothes once the task had been
completed, but these soon dried out in the sunshine! All in all, a good job well done!
