Life Saving Vet Treatment

Veterinary fees for the Greatwood horses are usually a staggering £24,000 each year. However we also have to prepare for one-off emergencies such as when the lovely Dark White (Derek) went down with colic. We had to dig deep to save this horse, with emergency surgery and a stay in hospital costing £6500.

Derek is now recuperating well back at Greatwood with his friends, under the watchful care of the yard team. He will return to his important work with the children as soon as he is fully recovered.

The Greatwood horses continue to play a vital role in our innovative ‘Animal Assisted Intervention’ education programmes, providing young people with special educational needs or from challenging backgrounds with skills, education and empowerment for life.
